Okay, so a lot of us know of secret menus at food establishments. Well at Starbucks/other coffee shops, there is a whole underground menu! Most of these drinks will work at any coffee shop. Realize that not all of these drinks are commonly known. However these descriptions should be enough to get a barista to make you a drink.

Deetfin.com's Starbucks Underground drinks

History: I worked at Starbucks for a whole summer, and so I learned a lot of drinks and created many on my own. (the one’s I created I will lable with DO [deetfin original]) If you have any others you’d like the share or stories of you trying a drink, e-mail it to us at deetfin@gmail.com

How this works. So first is the name or picture (if available) and then a description on how to make it. And then I’ll write a review of the drink.

The Undertow
Undertow-one pump vanilla, cold half and half and then a hot shot of espresso poured over a spoon. Then it is chugged. (make in a shot glass, do not add too much milk, at the end it should be near to the top of the shot glass) Apparently also known as the John Wayne, Trinity, or Tear Drop, however I like the Undertow name the best because it best describes the experience. (I’ve heard the trinity is made with toffee nut instead of vanilla.

Review: Alright, so this is by far one of my favorite secret drinks. You have to make it quickly, and drink it quickly. It’s very important to pour a HOT shot over the spoon so it does not mix that much with the milk. If you do it right, you will understand why its called an undertow.
Testimonial: from xBboyRewindx: Haha thanks so much man i just today had a undertow. They didn’t know wth it was so i had to tell the guy what it really was he was kind of confused. so he gave me a lil tiny cup (mug?) he said that’s where they put the shot of espresso in. So i told him to put one pump of vanilla first then half & half then on the side give me the shot of espresso so he said yeah sure…but the one that made it for me was NOT him cuz he was just the cashier. So the other guy put everyting in the cup himself -.-

captain crunch frappucino
Captain crunch berries frap-strawberries and cream frap with one pump hazlenut and toffee nut syrup and a chunk of the blue berry bar with whipped cream
Review: Crazy! Okay so this drink can also be made with out the blue berry bar, and without the strawberries and cream mix. It’s just ridiculous how much this one tastes like Captain Crunch. This one will take you back to your childhood when you had these for breakfast. This one is pretty well known, and a lot of baristas can make it. (Blueberry bar may be not available or may add to the cost, so don’t worry about adding it.)

DO Layered Frap-any two different colored fraps made as talls and then poured along the sides so there are four distinct layers. So make two tall fraps, and then pour it into the venti cup in parts. So gently pour each quarter or fifth in.
Review: Very important to use two differently color Fraps. Though when you use two complimenting flavors it can be delicious and beautiful. My favorite is a Cafe Vanilla Frap and a Java Chip. The trick to this frap is pouring the frap down the side of the cup gently, so they keep their layers.
Testimonial: (some explicitness) from xBboyRewindx: In fact, i even had one today after i had the undertow. The cashier was shocked and said he’s definatly going to try it. But anyways what i mean is that i had a Layered frap (Vanilla Bean & Java Chip) so he didn’t know wth it’s that so i said well it’s just both are going to be talls and then you layer them in a venti cup and then first you put w/e flavor a lil bit then the other flavor then again the first flavor then the other flavor till you have 4 layers And after they saw it they were like HOLY SHIT this layered frap looks very nice and fkn delicioius. So i had it and it was so damn delicious! (I thank you by the way) So the guy came to my table and said so how is it? and i’m like “oh man it’s fkn amazing it’s like first you’re drinkin java chip then like it automatically changes to the other flavor it’s amazing. And he’s like fuck i gotta try one. Even a girl came up to me and was like heyyy that looks so good. They all love me now ha

Cookies n creme-creme base with some vanilla bean mix and then choc chips (optional white mocha inside)
Review: It’s tastes good, but is nothing too special. This one is kind of well known, and very easy to make.

DO Drink with a twisted flip-any drink that gets whipped cream just with a little whipped cream on the bottom and then on the top too
Review: Yeah, so this is nothing special. The backstory is the most interesting part. Basically this guy came in late one night, so no one was there. So he walks us all fancy like, and is like hey, can I have a Mocha Frap with a twisted flip. I’m like sure, if you tell me what a twisted flip is. He says he has no clue, but figured I would make something out of it. So I do as the man says, and come up with this this. For a Frap is strange because you get the whip cream first, however I think it works better in Hot drinks or Iced Drinks.

the Mink
The Mink-four pumps white mocha, two pumps cinnamon dolce, skinned (with whipped cream) unskinned (without whipped cream) and needs to be venti.
Review: Got this one from a youtube video, it was a really neat series, however only lasted for three or four episodes. The people were trying to have a new drink like every week or something. Anyways its such a tasty drink and tastes delicious on a cold night, or cold day. And I just love the name and it being skinned or unskinned :)

jacked up
Jacked Up-one pump of every nutty flavor and then caramel
Review: A great idea, tastes pretty good however was a much better drink a couple years ago when Starbucks had more nutty flavors. Starbucks used to have Almond and now there are only a couple of nutty flavors, so this drink it not as special. It still tastes pretty good.

obama americano
The Obama Americano-grande americano, 2 pumps white mocha, half pump mocha, whipped cream, and room for cream
Review: So, got this one from youtube also, basically was a joke. I thought it was an interesting idea, and sure enough wanted to try it, HORRIBLE IDEA! it tasted horrible :P So just use it as a joke :P

Conservative T-Shirts

McCainnacino-strawberries and creme layered with vanilla bean and sorbetto
Review: so I made the Obama Americano at work when I had another co-worker there, and well so he was like oh yeah well you should try the McCainacino! (PS this was before the election) so I was like oh yeah! what is it! and so he struggled and came up with this. Lesson from these drinks, Political drinks are never a good idea :P

Red eye-drip coffee and espresso shots
Review: another very common drink, and most baristas will know it, or know a form of it. If you need to wake up, this is the way to do it! Or an Undertow will wake you up too. It’s not for the weak people who like their foo foo drinks :)

nutella frappucino - Deetfin Original
DO The Nutella Frappucino-tall, creme base, two pumps mocha, and one pump hazlenut and put whipped cream in the blender for texture
Review: So this is my proudest creation. I was bored and this one actually took a couple of tries. I have tried it in bigger sizes but it just doesn’t upgrade well. The ratios are perfect. I would suggest to anyone to try it. The whipped cream should be added on top of everything before it is blended. It should be added and not too much, My judgement was to have it be like a picture in the blender so you have a frame around it. This is too make sure you don’t overload it because if you add too much, you’ll ruin the flavor!

Sunset tea-black tea passion tea and lemonade done with thirds. you can’t make all three teas together the starbucks way, you have to do it like the layered frap in making a third of each drink, and then pouring it all into a venti glass. once again, it needs to be done gently or else the layers will mix together
Review: This drink is also another important layering drink. It is very important not to mix, so you get the sunrise look to it. When done right, its a beautiful sunset. The taste is interesting.

Zebra-half white mocha half mocha
Review: Another very common drink, and most baristas will know it. It too is delicious. My personal feelings is that the Mocha syrup from Starbucks is not all that great, so I like to add it to other things. So I’m not a big fan of a straight mocha. So adding white mocha is ingenius! Usually nothing too special is done with this drink, however you can decorate the sides of the cup with syrup when doing an iced drink. I like it a lot when its iced, but also very good when served hot.

DO Deetfin Chantico-short cup, six pumps of mocha and milk steamed to 180
So I added Deetfin Chantico because technically I made it up myself however it was inspired by the original Starbucks Chantico. Avid Starbucks fans will remember the Chantico from a couple years ago. So one night, (I worked a lot of lonely nights) I really felt like making myself a chantico and expirementing on how to make it. So I did so, and just started adding a whole bunch of mocha syrup to a short cup and steamed some milk and mixed it up a lot. I know this goes against my previously statement of me not liking starbucks mocha syrup/sauce but in this small amount and thick version, I found it delicious. And a lot like the original.

Funny T-Shirts

Traditional chantico-two big spoon scoops of mocha powder, and then add whole milk and steam both to 210
Review: So this is the original. A co-worker told me how to make it. The problem is very few people just have the mocha powder they can grab because usually mocha is only made at the beginning of the day and that is only time when the powder is available. (you can now buy the mocha powder online) So this drink is not well known among Baristas who were hired after this drink was taken out, and its hard to get.

DO Vietnamese iced coffee-one and a half scoops of sugar. Condensed milk. About half a mug full. Mix well. Then add two shots of espresso and mix well. Then pour over ice into a glass.
Review: Alright, so this drink is not easily done at Starbucks or most coffee places. Though it is delicious when done right. I usually get it at this Vietnamese place though I wanted to make it at home. A Vietnamese friend told me the jist of what it is so I made the recipe. Its complicated, and is for more experienced baristas.

cheesecake frap
Cheesecake frap-strawberries and creme three packs of cream cheese first in, and the two pumps classic, whipped cream and strawberry mix poured on the whipped cream, makes a grande in a venti cup
Review: Okay so I was just as shocked as you when I first read this. A barista told me about this drink and I just looked at him dumfounded, and then he made it for me, and it is the most surprising drink, because (as always, when done correctly) it actually tastes like you are drinking a strawberry cheesecake. I know it sounds disgusting and that’s what most people say, and almost no baristas know it, though seriously you should try it. Follow the instructions carefully!

Hawaiin punch-cannot be done at all starbucks anymore, though if available passion iced tea with almond syrup
Review: Sady yes this cannot be done at Starbucks anymore because of the discontinuing of almond syrup. So I have not tried it. However my co-workers said it tasted just like it. So if you get the chance, try it! Let us know what you think of it.

DO Blackberry vivanno-just a vivanno made like a mango one except with the sorbetto blackberry juice
Review: I was bored at work and had the supplies, so I tried it. Might be able to make it at Starbucks if they have the blackberry juice for Sorbetto. It wasn’t anything too special.

DO Sundae frap-mocha and caramel sauce on the sides and vanilla bean frap and whipped cream with the strawberry sauce on top
Review: So I was bored and wanted to create some more drinks, So I made this one, and its kind of interesting, nothing too special, however it does taste like a sundae.

Italian soda-venti one peligrino two pumps vanilla, five pumps rasberry, should be to the first line, then heavy whipping cream to the bottom of the shots and then ice
Review: Yeah sounds like a lot of work, and it is. This is a very uncommon drink, and few know of it. Though it is surprisingly tasty. The ingredients sound strange but it all adds up like the Cheesecake Frap.

DO Triple threat undertow-mocha syrup, then half and half poured over a spoon, then a shot over a spoon
Review: So made this in trying to make another level of the amazing Undertow, however it did not work out so well. You get a three layer effect, however its nothing too special. Still worth a try!

Custom T-Shirts

DO The windy city-layered frap pour shot over first half then pour other half and spin
Review: I wanted to try it, and I thought it was a good idea at the time, It’s a very interesting drink.

White lightning-white chocolate over ice and espresso shots
Review: White chocolate and straight espresso have turned out not to be a too great combo. It doesn’t taste that good.

Fench vanilla-half vanilla syrup pumps and half hazlenut pumps, then just a latte
Review: Quite simply its French Vanilla, It tastes good. Quite plain and simple :)

Hope you enjoyed it. If you have any reviews, or comments, feel free to discuss it in the Deetfin Forums
