Our first dog
Lincoln
A Dachshund from Charlottesville, VA
Owner: Kay
About Lincoln & Kay:
I’ve got 4 Longhaired Dachshunds. They are The Sheridan Avenue Boys. A few years ago, just a joke, I made a Christmas card with the boys on it…What started as a joke, turned into a every holiday thing now. I send out an email to over 300 people with their holiday (Easter, Halloween, etc.) photo. It’s been a lot of fun and the email list keeps growing. I’m hoping one day to start a pet photography business.
Over the past couple of years I’ve had a lot of people tell me that I need to do something with all the pictures that I take of the boys…but right now I already work 2 jobs and it’s so hard to find the time. I have lots of ideas and dreams but just not enough time on my hands. Hopefully one day I will get started on it.
Charity:
“I plan on donating some money to our local animal shelter (SPCA) here in Charlottesville, VA and also the Uva Cancer Center Breast Care Program. They hold an event every year called the Women’s 4 Miler that raises money for the Women’s Breast Care Center. ” -Kay

Our second dog
Glory
English Springer Spaniel from Gainesville, GA
Owner David & Cathryne
About Glory & David & Cathryne:
Glory was born in a puppymill in Ohio and purchased along with her sister by a US soldier. He was posted to Alabama and then started rotating to Iraq and the girls spent too much time chained outside. Fortunately he realized that he could not give the girls what they needed and relinquished them to English Springer Rescue America (ESRA). David adopted Glory almost three years ago and now she lives on three acres of Georgia woodlands and runs free chasing squirrels with her two kitten sisters. She has become the ESRA national poster dog, is pet of the month for the third month running at her local veterinary hospital, and is a therapy dog at an Altheimers day care centre in Gainesville GA.
Charity:
Her winnings have been pledged to ESRA and we need every vote that we can get every day between now and Tnanksgiving. Please – help ESRA help Springer Spaniels in distress all over the United States by adding YOUR vote every day. ESRA is a 501(c)(3) all volunteer organization that assists in excess of 1200 English Springer Spaniels in need every year. Sadly this number is rising. We rely on donations – and indeed a lot of money comes from the volunteers’ pockets. Winning this competition could inject much needed capital and allow ESRA to do even more for this magnificent breed.
Our third dog
Hoover
A Beagle from Charlotte, NC
Owner Judy
About Hoover & Judy:
My name is Judy, and my love for beagles all started after my daughter was born with a craniofacial syndrome, Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS); a syndrome which causes facial deformities. I noticed with her painful month-long surgeries, our beagle, Dutchess, would sit for hours with her while she moaned in pain. I knew that Dutchess was such a comfort to her and I was so grateful to our dog for helping our daughter get through the surgeries. At 12 yrs old, Dutchess passed away and we grieved terribly. I wondered how my daughter would get through her future surgeries without her loving beagle by her side. I also wondered how I would get through life without her. Two weeks later, we decided to adopt this beagle that no one else wanted. She kept getting passed over because she was the runt of the litter and seemed sickly. After taking our little runt, “Gracie Mae” home, we knew we had the prize. Our daughter has had to endure many surgeries since, and Gracie has laid in bed beside her throughout every one. She is truly a gift!
I run an organization that advocates for people with TCS, so that puts me on the computer quite a bit. One day while checking out messages on a beagle group, I happened to see someone begging for someone to adopt this beagle/basset mix found wandering a highway. Instantly, my hand picked up the phone and without thinking, there I was – pledging to adopt this dog – sight unseen. I learned that this beagle was found wearing a shock collar that had grown into his neck! He had been someone’s hunting beagle that either they didn’t want any more, or he got away and no one ever claimed him. “Jaxson Ray” became the love of our lives, and he and Gracie bonded instantly. In the first two months, it broke my heart to see Jaxson grieve so terribly in trying to adjust to new surroundings and new people. What I witnessed was nothing short of amazing in how Gracie comforted Jaxson during this time as if she were his mother – she instinctively knew he was grieving.
We felt very at home again with not one – but two beautiful beagles. With the expense of vet bills, we were content with the two and never dreamed of having more beagles. However, two years later, we found a stunningly handsome large beagle puppy running around the neighborhood. Estimated to be only nine months old (we would find out later), he was much bigger than our adult beagle, Gracie. Upon examination, one could tell that this extremely clean beagle had probably been an inside only dog. After a vet visit, we found he was not micro-chipped, nor did his new-looking collar have any tags. We put up signs everywhere, placed newspaper ads and animal shelter notices and made calls to local vets–all with no results. We started to realize that the owner must not want his beagle back. It didn’t take long to figure out why. He was a handful – a big puppy with an extremely playful nature and endless energy. His owner probably let him loose because this beagle tore up so many things. It took him destroying five doggie beds (by causing a hole with his sharp teeth and then pulling all the stuffing out) before I realized that he needed to have part of the bed in his mouth to sleep (like a pacifier). Then all I had to do was find a tougher bed that he couldn’t accidentally rip a hole in. After an investment in six doggie beds, we made the decision to keep “Hoover Bay.” We had him neutered and taught him to stop tearing up things. We’ve also learned over the two and one-half years we’ve had Hoover that he must be part-human! Yes, I really do believe it. He cares so much about how someone feels and will come to you and try to console you if you are upset – even licking your tears if you cry. He will lay with you like a human and wrap his body and arms around you! He’s incredible!
I love all my beagles and could never say I love one more than the other (I’m not sure that is possible anyway) but there is something so special about Hoover, though I’m not sure we know yet what exactly it is. He is, for sure, a very handsome guy who could probably be a dog model but he enjoys just being one of the family. However, my daughter swears he loves modeling and likes to have him model for her; she even dresses him like a girl in her photo shoots! We just know he is a such a gem and whoever let him go made a huge mistake!
Charity:
Since Hoover is the most photogenic, the three beagles decided amongst themselves that he would be the one to enter the contest. After all, they just want to win – they don’t care who makes it possible. Hoover has decided that if he can win the contest, he would like to help other lost and injured beagles find safe and loving forever homes, like he and his brother and sister have found. My daughter and I have always had a crazy dream of winning the lottery and having a beagle ranch where we can rescue many beagles and just live in beagle bliss. However, in the meantime, we’d settle for helping other beagles.
Also, my daughter and I want to help our organization, the Treacher Collins Connection (TCC), to further advocate for these families who have children born with this often profound facial syndrome every year. One of the main functions of the TCC is to host yearly retreats to bring children and adults from all around the world together for a weekend retreat that forever changes their lives. At our event, children sometimes learn for the first time that they are not alone with their facial difference and deafness, and that there are actually many others who look like them. To know that these small children have grown up with our retreats year after year, and look so forward to seeing their buddies every year, is one of the most rewarding experiences I could ever know.
Our fourth dog
Meelo
A mixed breed from Madison, CT
Owner Kate
About Mello & Kate:
This is Meelo. He has a shooting star on his chest. He was rescued from a puppy mill. His mom and dad were not so lucky. They still live there. In cages. 24 hours a day.
Charity:
Meelo’s owners set up www.clicks4dogs.org to raise money in order to rescue more dogs like Meelo. Clicks4Dogs raises money to support animal charities both locally and worldwide. By voting for Meelo you are voting for animals. Meelo’s winnings will go directly to The International Fund for Animal Welfare and specifically their rescue effort in the Indonesia, Samoa and the Philippines.
Think for a second what you would do if a natural disaster hit your home. What would you do if you were forced to leave your house and pets behind? Or worse, if they were swept away. It’s times like these that we need our pets and the comfort they provide. Animals are no longer just pets, they are members of our families and most often our Best Friends. IFAW is working tirelessly around the clock to rescue animals like this one below and reunite them with their owners. Let’s help them get the resources they need to continue doing such amazing work! A vote for Meelo is a vote for animals everywhere!

Our Sixth Dog
Moxie
Dachshund from Tallahassee, FL
About Moxie:
Moxie is a personality plus 8 pound mini dachshund who nobody wanted. The offspring of a red short hair Mom and black tan long haired dad, her tail slammed in a door at birth, she was far from perfect. Her one long haired ear and bent tail were an inspiration to share Moxie’s life challenges – that it’s not what is on the outside, it’s the inside that counts.
Her career started as a pet therapy dog. Her weekly visits to nursing homes provide unconditional love to dementia patience. She brings remarkable results to their distance and appearance of emptiness through her love, licks and nonstop wagging tail Patients who seem lifeless perk up with her visits, she enters into their souls.
Movie has a special way of “talking” into the camera. With her training as a therapy dog, her sit, stay, down, paws up and doxies push ups have won her many charity fundraiser events.
Charity:
Movie is hoping to win the one of the two last spots for finalist in the “Cutest Dog Contest” She is hoping to get enough votes so she will be able to donate large portions to Dachshund Rescue, SPCA, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Cancer Unit, numerous Breast Cancer Awareness funds, Rotary Club and many other causes where her legacy of service, charity work, donations and LOVE will live on.
This little 12 year old doxies has a big heart and her legacy of giving can continue with your help.

Please vote for Hoover. I will be putting his story up soon but because he was found wandering the streets and we could never find any owner (we know now that they let him loose hoping someone would find him!), I’ve always wanted to contribute somehow to helping beagles get found safely and adopted out to a forever home. I have three beagle rescues so this is my love! Please vote for Hoover, and though he is already a winner in our hearts, make him a winner to help other beagles. Watch for Hoover’s full story soon.
